Welcome back to a new year of blogging with International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Year Programme (MYP). We are now in our second year as an IB candidate school. We will continue our implementation of the IB Learner Profile (August learner profile is caring) and unit writing. In addition, we will implement two MYP units (one fall and one spring). The instructional coaches and I have aligned the classroom expectations and the instructional framework for King Middle and the MYP unit planner. Moving forward, there will be a series of professional development to help you write the units and to prepare you for implementing the units. The slide show below is the presentation from our meeting on last Wednesday. The presentation gives a brief overview of IB program, what is the MYP, and the benefits of the MYP. Please provide two takeaways from the presentation in the comment area of this post.

Great PPT! I needed the refresher. I didn't realize that 9th and 10th grade students are still considered in the MYP at Maynard!!!

IB is student centered and taught in a global context. As a science teacher, I am glad it is inquiry based and I like the fact the SEL is part of the IB program.

The college acceptance rates for IB diplomas could be a good talking point for parents who want to know how IB prepares students for college.

As an ELA teacher bringing the international mindset into literature read in class is very helpful. IB really helps with perspective.

I'm excited that our school (King Middle) is a candidate for IB MYP because all of our students will benefit from their participation. Even though it is a challenging/rigorous framework, it encourages students to make practical connections between their academics and the real world.

I didn't realize a general high school diploma and an IB diploma were different. I'll be encouraging my students, especially 8th graders, to choose the IB path.

I’ve learned that The International Baccalaureate programs have been around for over 25 years; however, in order to teach IB programs, schools must be authorized. Therefore, I am very excited that King Middle School is now in the second year as an IB candidate school. I’m also happy to learn that because the MYP, (which includes grades 6 through 10) is inclusive by design, students of all interests and academic abilities can benefit from participating.
