When we talk about concepts we are talking about the Big Idea. We will teach the topic and cover the standards. Please note, the State Standards (GSE) is the curriculum and provides rigor while IB is the framework that uses the inquiry based methodology. Teaching from the concept allows for transfer. In MYP, we embed the concepts in context (Global Context). Concepts are learned in the big picture. For example, It is not about the trail of tears, it is about migration. It is not about Congress, it is about government. What are some of your anxiety with this shift in pedagogy?

The shift in pedagogy has always existed in curriculum ,specifically "The Big Idea" of a unit and the skills needed for the student to articulate the unit focus through concepts. The anxiety of inquiry based learning could be the shift of responsibility from teacher to student and allotting that time to be spent for the process to take place. I think it brings back the excitement of why students are learning and creates ownership for the student to think through the steps it takes to understand the big idea and apply it to the real world.

At today's professional development for the math cohort, the main focus is aligning teaching to learning. Everything that we are trying to accomplish at King with the MYP supports this direction.
